Dream job

Rabbenu Bachya will now bring us an example of someone who "has the dream job".  The "alchemist" can turn copper and tin into silver and silver into gold.   What is the significance of this job?

Aren't we all looking for the "pot of gold at the end of the rainbow"  Wouldn't we all just want to be able to turn anything into a precious metals as we spend our days davening, praising H'shem, tending to the needs of others, and making the world a better place.

Would we?

Do we really need to "work" that hard to "pay the bills" or are we putting the effort into what we could do instead of what He is doing for us.  Rabbenu stresses the ultimate result of Bitachon is having complete "tranquility of soul, peace of mind, and diminished anxiety"  "turning ourselves away from worldly concerns, devote it...to His service".  We must remind ourselves that Bitachon is not to gain a result such as wealth, successful children and marriages,  a life with no worries just an enjoyable stress free ride.  Bitachon/ Trust in H'shem  IS the purpose in it of itself.  The connection to H'shem for the sake of being connected. Of having a complete awareness of in whose hands you are and who is untimely running the show.

M. Shabbat Segulah

Once, on a Motzoei Shabbos, the chasidim were sitting in the bais medrash of the Ruzhiner Rebbe zy”a for Melave Malka. Suddenly, the Rebbe opened the door of his room next to the bais medrash, stood at the entrance, and said, “The Baal Shem Tov was not a deity, and the zaida, the Magid, was not just an ordinary wagon driver. And once, when the holy Baal Shem Tov prayed, his talis fringe fell out of his gartel and dragged on the floor. The Magid approached, picked it up, and put it back in the gartel, but he was trembled with such tremendous fear that he fainted and his life was in danger. They were compelled to rouse the Baal Shem Tov from his deep dveikus in order to calm him.”  He then added, “I told you that the Baal Shem Tov was not a deity and my zaida, the Magid, was no wagon driver. Still and all, when he touched the Besht’s garment, he fainted from fear. The entire world is Hashem’s garment. How much fear must we feel to touch this world!”  May the memory of the...

The Segulah and the promise of saying Avraham's mother's name

There is a well-known segulah from the Kaf HaChaim citing HaRav Refael Abuchatzera that one who says Avraham Avinu's mother's name אמתלאי בת כרנבו (Amtlai bat Karnevo) 17 times before Oseh Shalom in Shmoneh Esrei is promised they will have chen and will be protected. When Amtlai found out she was pregnant, Nimrod had made a gezeirah that all baby boys were to be killed right after birth, since his advisors had told him a boy would be born who would show the world who the real GD is. Not knowing what to do, she called out: "Whoever the GD of the world is, if this is a boy, save him!" H'shem helped her hide her pregnancy from everyone, including Terach, her husband. When it was time to deliver, she went into a cave and gave birth. It was a boy. She called him Avram. She knew if he was discovered, he would be killed. So again she called out to the wind, "Whoever is in control of the world, please save this child!" and left him in the cave. H'shem again...
