Noam Elimelech on Parshat Vayikra

"Beis Yaakov lechu v'nelachah b'ohr H'shem  Hous of Yaakov let us walk in the light of H'shem (Yeshayahu2:5). This too refers to the two levels (of the Tzaddik) "Beis Yaakov- House of Yaakov" hints at the lower level (that of self-affliction) for it is known that "Yaakov" is lower level than "Yisrael" Thus it says "The House of Yaakov will be a fire and Esav's house like straw" (Ovadiah 1:18)- this alludes to the  Tzaddikim who have the [power to break the harsh judgments (through self-affliction)  "Beis Yaakov lechu" connotes "go on the first path" V'nelchah" connotes "and also walk on the second path" which alludes to those (on the higher level) who walk in the light of holiness in the upper worlds and dimensions.  May H'shem give us the merit to be among them Amen, may it be His will   Peninim Noam Elimelech166

Kindnesses and Favor

In matters relating to his enemies and those who are envious of him and who seek his harm, he should trust in the Creator. May He be exalted and bear their scorn.  He should not pay them back in kind, but with kindnesses and any favor that he can do for them, he should do bearing in mind that his well-being and injury are in the hands of the Creator. May He be exalted.   If his enemies should cause him injury, he should judge them favorably and suspect himself and his deeds of having been previously evil in GD's sight.  He should plead before GD and ask Him to forgive his sins.  Then his enemies will become his friends as the Wise Man said: "When GD is pleased with a man's ways, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him." pg 427

He tried his best

When asked by someone higher or lower than himself to do something, he should try to do it with all his heart and focus his mind on carrying it out, provided that he is able and that the one who asked him is worthy of the effort.   Then he should put his trust in GD for its accomplishment.  If Gd brings it about through his agency and uses him as the instrument for benefitting his fellowman, he should offer thanks for the privilege   But if, after going through much trouble and effort, he is prevented from doing so and is unable to fulfill his neighbor's request he should not blame himself, and should inform his friend that he tried his best. pg 427
