The Segulah and the promise of saying Avraham's mother's name

There is a well-known segulah from the Kaf HaChaim citing HaRav Refael Abuchatzera that one who says Avraham Avinu's mother's name אמתלאי בת כרנבו (Amtlai bat Karnevo) 17 times before Oseh Shalom in Shmoneh Esrei is promised they will have chen and will be protected.

When Amtlai found out she was pregnant, Nimrod had made a gezeirah that all baby boys were to be killed right after birth, since his advisors had told him a boy would be born who would show the world who the real GD is. Not knowing what to do, she called out:
"Whoever the GD of the world is, if this is a boy, save him!"
H'shem helped her hide her pregnancy from everyone, including Terach, her husband.

When it was time to deliver, she went into a cave and gave birth.
It was a boy. She called him Avram.
She knew if he was discovered, he would be killed. So again she called out to the wind,
"Whoever is in control of the world, please save this child!" and left him in the cave.
H'shem again listened to her tefilot and sent the Malach Gavriel to watch over him.

Gavriel put Avraham's own thumb in his mouth, and milk miraculously poured out and nourished him. Rav Refael says he heard this is why, even today, babies put their thumbs in their mouths.

H'shem made a nes, and Avraham aged a year every day.

Avraham noticed that the sun rose and 12 hours later set. He saw the mountains, the water, the wind. He realized someone had to be controlling the universe. H'shem sent Gavriel to Avraham and told him there is a Creator of the world.

At 20 days, Amtlai bat Karnevo, Avraham's mother, could no longer be apart from her son and went to the cave. She saw a grown man there and thought someone had discovered Avraham, and she began to cry.

Avraham asked her why she was crying, and she said, "I had a son and now he is gone." He asked how old that son would be. She said 20 days, and Avraham revealed that he is her son and that there is a Creator of the world who had made this miracle.

Instinctively, she ran to Terach to tell him the miracle, and Terach ran to Nimrod to tell over the miracle.

Nimrod at this time had already killed seventy thousand babies and could not believe the one he was trying to prevent from living had slipped through his fingers.

He tried to have him killed, but H'shem protected him, and Avraham was always saved.

Nimrod then invited Avraham for a talk at the palace. Gavriel told Avraham not to worry—H'shem would protect him—so he went.

Nimrod tried to coerce Avraham to admit he (Nimrod) was the real GD, but Avraham was firm. So Nimrod threw him into the fire, and we all know the story of how H'shem saved him and he was unharmed.

This is the point where Avraham began to influence others that there is a real Creator in the world, which is why Rav Moshe says the first bracha of Shmoneh Esrei ends with only Avraham and not all the Avot.

M. Shabbat Segulah

Once, on a Motzoei Shabbos, the chasidim were sitting in the bais medrash of the Ruzhiner Rebbe zy”a for Melave Malka. Suddenly, the Rebbe opened the door of his room next to the bais medrash, stood at the entrance, and said, “The Baal Shem Tov was not a deity, and the zaida, the Magid, was not just an ordinary wagon driver. And once, when the holy Baal Shem Tov prayed, his talis fringe fell out of his gartel and dragged on the floor. The Magid approached, picked it up, and put it back in the gartel, but he was trembled with such tremendous fear that he fainted and his life was in danger. They were compelled to rouse the Baal Shem Tov from his deep dveikus in order to calm him.”  He then added, “I told you that the Baal Shem Tov was not a deity and my zaida, the Magid, was no wagon driver. Still and all, when he touched the Besht’s garment, he fainted from fear. The entire world is Hashem’s garment. How much fear must we feel to touch this world!”  May the memory of the...
