35 Your Intentions

Trust is befitting to one who is constantly aware of what will benefit him.   His heart will be at ease knowing he is in the hands of one that is "knowledgeable of the ways to his wellbeing, ability to act on them, governance of them and empathy.” Pg 367 Nefesh Hachaim We have learnt that deeds and words have an effect on the higher worlds.   We will now learn that intentions too have an effect on the higher worlds and to what degree. Gate One, Chapter 14 pg 53

34. Weight of ones words

A major quality of trust is strength.   There must not be anything that he is too weak to fulfil or prevented form accomplishing. pg367 Nefesh Hachaim  The act of slander is punished more severely says the Gemara in Arachin then seduction.   The Gemara in Sanhedrin teaches, someone who does not keep his word is as if he was Oved Avoda Zara. The Nevim in Amos say that all of ones words will be brought in front of him when he arrives in heaven and will be shown to him their impact. Gate One, Chapter 13, pg 52/53

33 The Great Deep

Our comfort in trusting in H'shem stems from knowing he is "compassionate toward His creatures" 369 The Zohar warns those who are accustomed to speaking evil. He says that "large numbers of destructive angels attach themselves to the voice (that speaks evil) and take it to the Great Deep where many charges are lodged against it.   Woe to the person who speaks evil. Gate One, Chapter 13.pg 52

32. Carried on high

Through investigating all the qualities of trust one will easily recognize there is no one being that any one can put their trust in other then H'shem.  pg 369 Nefesh Hachaim The Zohar warns against those who do not believe that one's words are so carefully collected and brought up to heaven by the angels to be judged in our favor or chas v'shalom not.  Gate One, Chapter 13, pg 52

31. Submit to Him

After reviewing all the qualities of someone that is safe to trust, if one actually finds someone like this, he is obligated to put his full trust in him. Rabbenu Bachya teaches us; One must put his trust in him and be completely "tranquil outwardly and inwardly.. in his heart and limbs.. submit to him.. accept his decrees.. and judge him favorably in all his laws and actions". pg369 Nefesh Hachaim   Words of Torah and Prayer sour high to the Heavens when spoken and create many angels.  To the contrary words of "falsehood bring about destruction in the higher worlds."   Gate One, chapter 13, pg 52

30. Every, word, tone and breath.

One that imbues "compassion, empathy and love" it is easy to trust in him.   When set to a task there is a sense of calm that he will take care of what is expected of him.   pg 367 Nefesh Hachaim   The Zohar teaches us that every word, tone, and breath that man speaks is kept.  Each word spoken affects the higher worlds, and heavenly forces, positively and negatively. Gate One, Chapter 13 pg 51/52

29. The spoken word

It is easy to trust in one that his kindness and generosity has no bounds.  How much more so when that kindness is showered upon those that are deserving of the kindness and to even those that are not.  pg 369 Nefesh Hachaim Every word that man speaks affects the higher worlds.  In Amos 4:13 the Navi warns "..Each single word you utter has either a constructive or destructive effect on the uppers worlds...Let me assure you that every trivial word or converstation is stored away and never lost" Gate One, Chaptert 13, pg 51

28.Trust to what extent?

The most important element of trust is the concrete belief in the one that we trust to "keep his word and to do what he promised. and that he has in mind to benefit him" To what extent? "Even in what he DID NOT COMMMIT HIMSELF TO OR UNDERTAKE TO DO." Simply out of his "good grace and kindness" 365/367 Nefesh Hachaim The "actions of man" determine the state of the higher worlds. Every action is automatically registered in the higher worlds and that action causes a positive or negative effect.  The blemish from a negative action is left in the higher worlds and on his soul, and only through punishment or teshuva can it be cleansed and rectified. Gate One, chapter 12, 50,51

27. The reward of the Mitzvah is the Mitzvah

What is trust?  It is the feeling of absolute calm that the one in whom he trusts will do  "what is good and right for him in the matter of the trust" pg 365 Nefesh Hachaim Each act good or bad brings with it the "seed of reward or punishment" As it says in Pirke Avot 4:2 "The reward of a Mitzvah is another Mitzvah and the recompense for transgression is another transgression". Gate One, Chapter 12, pg 50

26. He cradles you

One of the most magical benefits of trusts is H’shems promise to take care of us, even without us asking.   Rabbenu Bachya gives the example of a mother caring for her infant.   She feeds, changes, cradles, and bathes him all for his benefit without him asking.   In this way whatever situation H’shem puts us in we know it is for our best since He is caring for us as would a mother to her infant with only love and his best interest in mind. Pg 363/365 Nefesh Hachaim The sin itself wraps a spiritual impurity around the sinner.   In actuality the sinner is in Gehinnom his entire life and only realizes after his death.   “He is trapped in the snare he set for himself, caught by the impure spirits and demons he created” Gate One, Chapter 12, pg 50

25. He arranges his affairs

Another advantage of trusting in H'shem in business dealings is a sense of calm under all circumstances.   If he is not making the sale or if he can't collect a debt from his customers, there is no fear.   Even if one were to falls sick Chas V'shalom there is a complete sense of security and calm knowing "He arranges his affairs and chooses what is for his good better than he himself can" Pg 363 Nefesh Hachaim Gehinnom is built much like Gan Eden.   Gan Eden is built by the person’s good deeds and Gehinnom is the sin itself. “The blemish to his soul’s heavenly root is instantaneous and the legions of impurity are sustained and strengthened by his sin.” Gate One, Chapter 12 pg 49

24 Time to think

One who trust in H'shem has the advantage of choosing a livelihood that "gives his body more rest,"  time to focus on learning Torah, and gives him respect and a "good name" He can do all this, since he realizes "practical means" will never increase his earnings, only what H'shem decrees. pg 363 Nefesh Hachaim Many are mistaken to believe that Olam Habba was  created at the time of creation .  In actuality each individual creates his portion of Olam Haba  through the good deeds he does on this world, Gate One, Chapter 12,pg 49

23. What you have created

Those that trust in H'shem have no need to go into “wearying occupations, and..  professions that exhaust the body" They can also avoid jobs that would require them to test their morals and oppress  others. pg 363 Nefesh Hachaim   Upon completion of a Mitzvah the "celestial light" that accompanied him goes back to "its source".     This good deed now built and aroused the higher worlds.  When he goes up to Gan Eden he will enjoy these higher worlds that his good deeds created.    This is the understanding of “reward in the World to Come”. Gate One Chapter 12 pg 49

22. A good Intention

One who trusts in H'shem does not have to go to far distant places to try and earn a living.  He knows that anywhere he is H'shem can provide for him.  pg361/363 Nefesh Hachaim When someone has a thought to do a Mitzvah, this alone has powerful  benefits that reach the higher worlds.  His intention to do a Mitzvah causes a "holy celestial light" to shine on him and that light helps him to carry out the Mitzvah. Gate One, Chapter 12 pg 49

21. The Benefits and the Impact

The benefits of trusting in H'shem: A heart at rest free of worldly concerns, tranquil spirit, undisturbed and untroubled by lack of bodily gratification and a sense of calm, security and peace. pg 361 Nefesh Hachaim Every action man performs has an impact on the higher worlds for benefit or Chas V'Shalom for harm.  So when a person reaches the end of his life and must stand in front of the "heavenly court" H'shem will "judge him no only for each of his actions as such, but also for the impact his actions had on the higher worlds and powers- for good or for evil” Gate One, Chapter 12, Pg 48/49
