The root of all thought

To make the decision how one wants to serve GD, is a personal and private decision, one he can not rely on GD to do or show him.  That being said once he has chosen the path to serve H'shem, he must beg H'shem to help him be successful in his service of Him. pg 431            Nefesh Hachaim The Shoresh Neshama, the root of all thought, is not within man.  Adam lost this Neshama after the Chet and individuals such as Chanoch and Eliyahu, who were able to reach this level were taken to heaven, without perishing, for they were too holy to live on the earth.  Our thoughts are a process of our Neshama, the root of all thought that is hidden from us is the Shoresh Neshama. Gate Two, Chapter 16 pg 101/102

The thinking soul

H'shem has revealed to us the right way to serve Him in our actions, emotions, and thoughts.  If you were to pray or wait for H'shem to choose for you the correct way to serve Him, the Tefilah would be in vain and the waiting for not, for H'shem, has already shown us the way.  One who chooses to abide by the Mitzvot and love H'shem in his heart and soul will be rewarded for these choices in the World to come.   pg 431 Nefesh Hachaim Above our Neshama there is another soul (shoresh haneshama,/ root of the neshama)  referred to as chaya (or yechida)  The chaya gives man the capacity to think.  Kohels refers to our ability to think as the root of life. "Wisdom gives life to him who possesses it"   Gate Two, Chapter 17 pg 100

Choosing a career

To start a career or business venture is in essence is to take a leap of faith, since it has not been revealed to anyone which choice will lead to success and which to(Ch"V'S) failure,  It is for this reason, that when choosing an occupation, one must have faith in H'shem that He will help.  We must put every physical effort necessary into succeeding, simultaneously trusting and begging H'shem for prosperity.  429/431                                                                Nefesh Hachaim The highest level of Tefilah is to take the soul, connect it to its corresponding letter, vowel and punctuation, and use them to connect to the heavens with every word and intention.  Gate Two, Chapter 16 pg 100

Kavanah

The choice to serve GD comes with substantial rewards.  If he succeeds in accomplishing his mission of service, it is because H'shem enabled him to.  If he is unable to complete his goal, he will still be rewarded for the desire to serve his Creator.  The same applies to one who chooses to disobey H'shem in his service of Him, even if he was unsuccessful he will be punished for his desire to rebel.  pg 429                                                 Nefesh Hachaim  The te'emim, punctuation, and breaks in the Torah transform the letters and words into ideas, and directives. These punctuations correspond to the thoughts and intentions of the Neshama forming ideas and Kavanahs. Gat Two, Chapter 16 pg100

Use your talents to serve Him.

Relying on GD to choose the best path for us in which to serve Him says Rabbenu Bachya is " is a deviation from the right way"  We have already been commanded to love and serve Him with our whole heart and soul and to make His name great in the world. It is our obligation to find how each one of us with our talents, abilities, and faults can accomplish this.   pg 429                                                       Nefesh Hachaim The punctuation and vowels that accompany the letters turn them into words. This turns them into speech,  the function of the Ruach aspect of our souls.  The vowels make the words come alive, and breath, Ruach, keeps our bodies alive.  Gate Two, Chapter 16 pg 100

Your choice

The choice to serve H'shem or disobey Him is up to us not up to Him.  The actual ability to act out our intentions depends on external variables that H'shem controls and maneuvers at times leaving available and at times not.  pg 429                                                                    Nefesh Hachaim Letters without punctuation and vowels have no meaning. It is for this reason they represent action, and the lowest level of the soul, the nefesh.  Gate Two, Chapter 16 pg 99/100
