H'shem Torah are One

The benefit of Emuna and Bitachon in H'shem in one's religious practices and observance is complete "tranquility of the soul" as a servant would rely on his master.  pg 349 Nefesh Hachaim When H'shem gave the Torah to the Jewish nation He said."You are acquiring Me together with the Torah" as the Zohar writes H'shem and the Torah "Are One and the same." Gate Four, Chapter11 pg 147/148 Alshich on Avos Ben Zoma said: One who learns from everyone is called a Chacham. Chapter 4 Mishna 1 pg 145

Above all there must be trust

Shaar HaBitachon  "What is needed above all things by a servent of GD is TRUST in GD, for it is of great benefit in both religious and secular affairs" pg349 Nefesh Hachaim By the very act of Torah study, one is clinging to His Will and His Word for GD and His Will are One and the same, this will automatically bring one closer to H'shem  Gate Four Chapter 10 pg 147 Alshich on Avos Ben Zoma said that the wealthy person is one who is happy with what he has Another character trait that the person has made part of his nature  Chapter 4 Mishnah 1

On any level you can trust H'shem

There are ten levels of trust that one who seeks to trust in H'shem will be on. They are trust, support, hope, refuge expectation, waiting, reliance, dependency, help, and confidence.  The highest form of Emuna and Bitachon that one could reach including prophets, tzadikim and the elite among Gd's servants is for his souls to desire Him and only Him. " May GD in his mercy set us among those who trust in Him who surrender outwardly and inwardly to His judgment." Amen.  We have concluded Shaar Habitachon, Sefer Chovoא Halivavot pg 471 Nefesh Hachaim One who loves Torah, GD has mercy on them and gifts them with wisdom, knowledge, insight, to do good deeds and learn Torah and everything is put in order for them.   Gate Four Chapter 9 pg 147 Alshich on Avos Even before a Jew prays H'shem "answers" him and decrees that his request be fulfilled.  H'shem is only waiting for us to speak to Him so that he may hear.  Chapter 3 Mishnah 2 pg 110

His most happy state

The more one matures and recognizes the important things in the world, he will choose to focus on things that will last like: serving H'shem, learning Torah, doing chesed, and less on material gains and pleasures of this world.  His most happy state will be when feeling connected to H'shem and his most empty moments when he feels disconnected.  His greatest pleasures would be to serve H'shem, and no worldly pleasure will supersede it.  pg 469/471 Nefesh Hachaim One who studies Torah L'shma, for the sake of Torah, will not have to worry about studying sefarim of musar and yirah as his yiras H'shem will be developed through his Torah learning which will "clothe him in humility and the fear of GD".  Gate Four Chapter 9 pg 147 Alshich on Avos It is sufficient for two people to have "words of Torah between them" not necessarily having to be occupied with Torah to merit the Presence of Hashem among them.  Mishna 3 pg110

GD will bless the work of your hands

When one's awareness of GD becomes stronger and he realizes how much care and concern He has for his creations, "he will accept in his heart and on his tongue whatever GD decrees for him."  He will want what H'shem wants for him and nothing more. He will serve GD with his entire body and soul being happy with what H'shem has provided for him under all circumstances and conditions.  pg 469 Nefesh Hachaim One who spends more time working on building his yira than needed is considered stealing from his time of learning.  Gate Four, Chapter 9 pg 146 Alshich on Avos Rabban Gamliel says It is a mistake for one to learn Torah, without being accompanied by some work at least enough to provide the bare minimum of one's material needs.  If he neglects to do so, he will eventually fail. " D'vei Eliyahu, "One might think that a person can sit idle and not do anything to provide for himself". The Torah, therefore, states in order that H'shem .. ...

The effort will protect you

As one grows in his Emunah and Bitachon he realizes that H'shem can provide for him through any means.  As such he will choose a profession that is easy, suitable, and comfortable knowing H'shem is providing for him, not his employment. Continuing to turn his heart to trust in H'shem will eventually bring him to the realization that he can trust Him in all circumstances in life and look for ways to use what he has to serve GD and fulfill his commandments.  469 Nefesh Hachaim The amount of time and effort one should spend learning musar and building yirat H'shem should be just enough to be able to protect the Torah he is learning.  It is wrong to spend one's majority of the time building the fence and neglecting putting in the effort to what it is meant to protect. Gate Four. Chapter 8 pg 145,146 Alshich on Avos Torah learning combined with working breaks the pattern of sin.  The amount of effort one needs to put in to accomplish both earning a livelihood and le...

Think in Torah

If one is employed he is in danger of trusting his employer to be his source of income.  He begins to trust in H'shem, once he realizes that his employer or any man is deficient in being able to control things such as: "rainfall, on sown fields, sailing the seas, crossing parched deserts, sudden floods, the outbreak of pestilence among the living creatures and simial matters in which man is totally without devices". 467/469   Nefesh Hachaim Stopping one's learning to strengthen his yirat H'shem is not considered bitel Torah, it is considered a way to preserve and strengthen his learning.  Gate four, chapter 7 pg 145 Alshich on Avos Rabban Gamliel's advice that "one should combine Torah study with an occupation", was not only that he should be thinking about Torah and reviewing his learning while taking a break from work, but also while actually engaged in his occupation.  Chapter Two, Mishnah 4 pg 63 .

Your connection is particular

"How are you faring?" the pious man asked his friend the scribe  "Fine," he said "so long as my arm is sound" That very evening he shattered his arm and could no longer write. Divine retribution for having placed his trust in his arm." pg 467 Nefesh Hachaim Pausing to recharge one's Yirat Shamayim in the midst of his Torah learning will recharge and preserve his studies.  Gate Four Chapter 7 pg 144 Pirkei Avos Midrash Tanchuma: All souls were present at Mount Sinai, Each soul has a connection to a particular aspect of the Torah, this is why one person is attached to one particular mitzvah while another person will "connect" to a different one.  Alshich on Avos Mishnah 1 pg 5

Perception of strength

A child that is born trusts in his nourishment not realizing the actual source is his mother.  As he grows he relies on things according to how strongly he perceives they can support and help him.  So he then transfers his trust from his mother to his father.  Though he matures he is ignorant of GD's providence in the world, he believes his own abilities come from his talents, so he then transfers his trust to himself.  pg 467 Nefesh Hachaim A man should dedicate his life to living according to the written and oral law all the while praying for understanding in following the correct path and Halacha.  Gate Four Chapter 7 pg 144 Pirkei Avos  One's soul is a part of GD, working with him to help gain entry to the Next World. This is what the Mishnah is referring to when it says Cheleck, portion, it is his soul.  Alshich on Avos Mishnah Alef pg 4

To Know H'shem

"The more one knows GD and has faith in His protective care and abounding providence the more trust one has in Him" pg 467 Nefesh Hachaim "Before sitting down to study Torah one should reflect on the importance of yiras Shamayim and repentance so that through his learning he connects with the Creator." Gate Four, chapter 7 pg 144 Pirkei Avos "Every Jew has a portion in the World to Come".  Every Jew is to understand that he should never despair of gaining a place in the World to Come.  This is because every Jew has a portion within that can gain him this reward.  This portion is his Nefesh his soul. Alshich on Avos, Perek Alef pg 4

He is the source

Why should one put his trust in H'shem and nothing else? Simple! The source of everything that happens is Him, the tools He chooses to use are powerless.  When you want something you go to the source, the lower down on the totem pole the less influence the object has. pg 465 Nefesh Hachaim  Eliyahu Hanavi teaches us in  Mesechet Gittin that every word of Torah man utters on earth is simultaneously being said by GD. "The Torah of Your mouth is better for me than thousands of gold and silver" (tehillim119/72).  All parts of the Torah are equally holly to H'shem as every word studied in this world emanates from H'shem's mouth.  We can now understand why even one letter missing in the Torah scroll would render it posul. Gate Four, Chapter 6 pg 143/144
