152 Gratitude is the key

If one's pursuit would be to find every opportunity to thank, praise and fulfill his obligations to H'shem he would quickly realize that to be the source to achieve and receive his heart's desires. pg 415                                                            Nefesh Hachaim When one prays for his suffering to stop he must remember that just as he would not ask the doctor not to proceed with bitter difficult remedies to an illness H'shem in His infinite knowledge has sent the Yesurim as the best medicine. Gate Two, Chapter 11 pg 90/91

151 It is His pain

The veil H'shem puts over the eyes of  those that honor the wealthy forces them to work harder for what they think will bring them honor all the while neglecting recognizing and thanking the Creator as well as their obligation in Avodat H'shem 415                                                       Nefesh Hachaim When one suffers in this world the Shechinah is suffering with him.  When one is asking for a personal request in Tefilah to relieve him from his suffering his focus should be on releasing the anguish of the Shechinah Gate Two Chapter 11 pg 90

150 Put your heart in the correct place

If one exhibits "ignorance" by showing honor to the wealthy in the hopes that it will rub off on him, H'shem then makes him ignorant in the area of his heart's desires. 415                                                       Nefesh Hachaim One may insert into the Shmneh Esreh his personal requests (right before the end of the Bracha before the words Boruch Atta having to do with the theme of the Bracha) but his own agenda  should not be his primary focus during his Tefilah Gate Two Chapter 11 pg 90

149 Purpose of Tefilah

When one understands that only H'shem can decree prosperity, he will turn his hope to Him alone.  He would likewise honor only those that H'shem has gifted with  qualities that even the Creator himself would honor him. 415                                                           Nefesh Hachaim The Anshe Kneset Hagedola prepared the daily Tefilah as a replacement for the Karbanot especially the Olah a Korban that was completely consumed by the fire.  As such Tefilah should be  for the purpose of "furthering the greater glory of H'shem" Gate Two, Chapter 11 pg 90

148 Increase your awareness

The desire to attach oneself to the wealthy comes from a lack of understanding that only H'shem has the power to give or withhold. When one understands this his eyes and heart would be turned to H'shem exclusively. pg 415                                                             Nefesh Hachaim Although it seems our daily prayers are personal pleas, beneath it is actually the same as that of Rosh Hashana, asking  "for an increased awareness of GD's glory by all mankind" Gate Two, Chapter 11 pg 90

147 Wealth does not rub off

Ignorance when it comes to wealth is the false honor they see by others who hope to gain from their wealth. 413/415                                                             Nefesh Hachaim His intention in Tefilah should be to "Perfect  the world through GD's sovereignty, strengthen the higher worlds, draw down blessing and divine light to the world while removing the spirit of impurity:". Gate Two, Chapter 11 pg 89/90

146 Forget your troubles

There are those that peruse wealth for the sake of wealth itself, out of complete ignorance of what will brings a person real honor in this world and the next. pg 413                                                   Nefesh Hachaim The proper mode of Kavana during Tefila is for a Jew to forget his own troubles and concentrate on "increasing the presence of Kedush in the world" Gate Two Chapter 11 pg 89

145 It is in the word

One who acts appropriately and with the correct understanding in regard to who is the real source of money in this world especially those who are responsible to pay others will gain honor in this world as well as "fitting reward" in the world to come. pg 413                                                            Nefesh Hachaim The Zohar teaches that people don't understand that Tefilah "splits the heavens open the gates and rises on high"  The words themselves say our Sages rise up to the heavens. Gate Two, Chapter 10 pg 89

144 The intelligent one

The intelligent among man understand that his income and possession are in  H'shem's control. His reliance on H'shem is stronger than in his own strength and abilities.  He admits to his lack of knowledge if the wealth in his possession is for him or others to use. 413                                                   Nefesh Hachaim H'shem yearns for the Tefilot of the Tzadikim to the point that he holds back their needs so they will pray.  Why does he do so, " In order that there be an abundance of Kedusha for whoever is in need". Gate Two, Chapter 10 pg 89

143 The perfect order

The employer, who thinks that because of him his employees and those that depend on him have money, and that if he would not pay it out it would stay with him is a fool.  He accumulates nothing in this world or the world to come pg 413                                                          Nefesh Hachaim The Anshe Kneset Hagedola consisted of the 120 greatest sages of the time and only they were able to formulate the Shemoneh Esrei, because only they had the Nevuah to arrange each word and syllable in the correct format to create the "mystical effects in the higher world" They understood the order and what words would create the "tikkun" of all the worlds. Gate Two, Chapter 10 pg 88

142 Feel the gratitude

When one loses sight of who is enabling him to support others he becomes "arrogant proud hearted and haughty He feels no gratitude to GD for the privilege of his position". pg413                                                 Nefesh Hachaim GD takes the words of our Torah and Tefilla and creates new worlds.  In this way we can understand the many passages where GD refers to Am Yisroel as His partner. Gate Two, Chapter 10 pg 87/88

141 Your Prayer is in their beaks

A grave mistake one who supports and provides for other's  their income makes, is expecting them to thank him for his kindness and generosity.  He is ignorant of the fact that H'shem gave him the means to support them and promised them their income simply using him as the provider. pg 413                                                                        Nefesh Hachaim The Tikkunim explain "When a person utters words of prayer, the birds spread their wings and open their beaks to receive them." Tikkunim18:35b Gate Two, Chapter 10 pg 87

140 You are a partner in creation

A mistake is to believe that the wealth H'shem has granted is for one's own sustenance, use and satisfaction.  This motivates him to go to great lengths to earn and acquire it.  What may be in the end is it is not for him at all yet for his "successor, his widow's next husband, his murderer, or great enemy."  pg413                                                         Nefesh Hachaim  When one Davens he becomes a partner with H'shem in building and creating worlds. Gate Two Chapter 10 pg 87

139 Each word of a Beracha or Tefilla travels

The third category of wealth H'shem bestows is money that has no use to the owner.  It is either for safe keeping, to be transferred to another or to be lost. pg 411/413                                           Nefesh Hachaim Each and every word in a Beracha or Tefilah travels "on high to carry out the specific task it was assigned" Gate Two Chapter 10 pg 87

138 GD's Involvement

"Income for one's own needs... GD has assured it to every creature that has a spark of life, to the end of days"  What one needs to support those that are dependent on him is determined by GD as He sees fit, the amount and time according to "His kindness and justice" 411                                                            Nefesh Hachaim One should internalize during his Tefilah that his purpose is to increase the flow of blessing, holiness and involvement" H'shem has with man and the universe. Gate Two Chapter 9 pg 87

137 Tefilah is connection

The second mistake one who is in charge of providing an income to others is thinking the money H'shem has sent him is meant for his own needs. He does not understand that there are three types of income only the first being for his own needs. pg 411                                     Nefesh Hachaim The job of Tefilah is to encourage the connection GD has to man and the world. Gate Two, Chapter 9 pg 87

136 Why be dishonest?

Dishonesty may appear to produce results but along the way he sabotages his goals and aspirations, success in his religious and secular affairs. Had he been honest he would have achieved it all and     received the exact same portion destined for him .     pg 411                                                        Nefesh Hachaim   Rebbe Shimon writes in the Zohar it is forbidden to eat before H'shem does, what is H'shem's food Tefilah. Gate 2, Chapter 9 pg 87

135 Food for the soul

The need to support others does not excuse "accumulating wealth through shameful and wicked methods"   pg 411                                         Nefesh Hachaim   Praying to H'shem at the correct time is "food for the Higher Worlds and one’s own soul"  The Zohar says H'shem’s "food is Tefilah" since it takes the place of the Korbanot Chapter Two, Gate9,pg 87
