He will not abandon him, neglect him or ignore him

If a man fails to secure a livelihood by the means he has employed, the reason may be that he already has in his possession provisions for the day or that it will come to him through other means.  Whatever the case, one should engage in the means to a livelihood and not be lax in pursuing them provided that they are suited for his personality, body, faith, and class, as I have explained.   At the same time, he should place his trust in GD that He will not abandon him, neglect him or ignore him. pg 407

Thank You H'shem

I am amazed by one who, after giving to his fellow what the Creator has decreed shall belong to the latter, then reminds the latter of the great favor he has done for him and expects to be thanked for this.   I am even more amazed by one who receives his livelihood from another person who is bound to provide it to him, and yet the recipient humbles himself before the provider compliments him and prases him.  pg 407

Thank the Creator

Instead of exulting on one's devotion to his profession and in the efforts, he has invested in it, one should thank the Creator Who gave him substances after he had exerted himself and did not allow his toil and trouble to be in vain. pg 407

It is only a job

If one obtains his livelihood by one of the various means that he has employed, he should not grow to rely on that source, becoming enamored and obsessed with it and yielding his heart to it, for then his reliance on GD will be weakened.  He should not think that it can be of more use to him than had already been determined by the Creator  pg 407

Sustenance is in His power and under His control

Artisans, merchants, and laborers must pursue their livelihood in their respective callings while trusting in GD that sustenance is in His power and under His control and that He guarantees it to a man and provides it to him by whatever means He pleases.   One should not think that the intermediate cause can help or harm him at all. pg405

You must put in the effort

The owner of a field should plow it, clear it of thorns, sow it, and water it if water is available and, at the same time, rely on the Creator may He be exalted to make it fertile, protect it from disasters, increase its yields and bless it.  He should not leave the earth untitled and unsown, relying on the Creator's predetermination that it will bear fruit without him first sowing seeds. pg  405

One must take the proper means

One has a duty to seek the proper means to preserve one's health, obtain food, clothing, and shelter, acquire worlthy qualities, and avoid what mitigates against them while maintaining the clear conviction that the means to these cannot help at all unless GD decrees it.  pg 405
