Reward

The man who is pure toward GD is identified and the man loyal in his service is recognized through his forbearance at a time when the wicked rule over him and humiliate him. For this, he will receive reward from the Creator. pg 393

On account of his father

Sometimes (H'shem gifts the wicked) on account of the past piety of his father in return for which it is proper to bestow benefits on the son   Sometimes it is in order to try those who are deceptive and inwardly evil who when they observe the prosperity of the wicked hurry to turn away from the service of GD and hasten to win the favor of the wicked and to learn from their actions.  pg 393

He gives him a righteous son

Sometimes wealth is placed in his charge like a deposit until GD may He be exalted gives him (wicked person) a righteous son who is worthy of it.  His wealth may also prove to be the primary cause of his death or undoing  It may be that the Creator patiently bears with him until he repents and becomes worthy of his good fortune as we see with Menashe pg 391

His favor for a past good deed

As GD's favor bestowed on a wicked man this sometimes happens on account of a previous good deed for which GD rewards him in this world.  "He repays His enemies during their lifetime for the good that they have done before Him so as ultimately to destroy them."(Targum)

Wickedness of a good man's contemporaries

At times... because of the wickedness of a good man's contemporaries the Creator May He be exalted tries the good man with poverty want and sickness in order to exhibit his piety and devotion in the service of GD in contrast to the conduct   Sometimes it is because of his failure to demonstrate zeal for GD's cause and exact punishment form his contemporaries pg 391

Service of the Creator

I suggest the reason why the opportunity to obtain his livelihood without trouble and trial might be withheld from a righteous man   It may be the consequence of a previously committed sin for which he is now paying the penalty.   Sometimes it is in accordance with compensation in the World To Come  Sometimes it is to demonstrate his patience and positive outlook  in the service of the Creator may he be exalted so that other people might learn from him  pg391

Trust in H'shem and do good

One might say that we see some righteous individuals who obtain their livelihood only after hard work and toil while many transgressors are at ease and pass their lives in prosperity and comfort. The reason for this differs from that of others.  Mosh's comment on the matter was | The hidden things belong to H'shem our GD but those that are revealed belong to us and to our children (Dvarim) pg 389

The trial of the saints and the prosperity of the wicked

One might say:  We see some righteous individuals who obtain their livelihood only after hard work and toil while many transgressors are at ease and pass their lives in prosperity and comfort.  The prophet refrained however from giving answers to explain the reason for this because the reason for the trial of each one of the saints and the prosperity in this world of each one of the wicked differs from that of the other. pg 389

His livelihood will com to him without trouble

The person who gives priority to the service of H'shem his livelihood will come to him without trouble or weariness to the extent of his needs and requirements pg 387

In the midst of prosperity

If however a person gives priority to the service of GD and resolves to fear Him trust in Him in all his interests religious and secular turn away from the despicable things and aspire to good qualities does not rebel when in comfort nor incline toward leisure is not swayed by his baser instinct nor seduced by the enchanting things of the world then he will be relieved of the burden of seeking and searching for a livelihood since the two reasons for obligation him to do so, trial and reblion in the midst of prosperity will have become inapplicable to him.  pg 387

Out of His mercy

It is out of His mercy for man that the Creator May He be exalted preoccupied him with the affairs of this world and the Hereafter fo that all his life he be absorbed in them and not seek what he does no need and cannot grasp with his intellect (e.g. the matters of the beginning and the end)

Neither pursuits

If a man did not have to trouble and busy himself in seeking means of obtaining his livelihood he would rebel and chase after what is forbidden and would pay no attention to what he owes GD for His goodness.  How much more so is this true of one who has no share in either, who concentrates on neither of the pursuits

What he does not decree

What the Creator does not decree that he should attain of them he does not attain and the means are withheld from him. His service or sin is demonstrated through his intent on and choices of one to the exclusion of the other and this then determines reward or punishment even if he does not carry it out in deed.

What he decrees

He commanded human beings to seek and obtain their requirement through the available means in specific ways and at certain times.   What the Creator decrees a man should attain of them the man realizes and attains through ample means which are provided him. 385

It is a test

The reason the Creator obliged man to exert himself and search for the means of obtaining a livelihood and other necessities is twofold.  Once since Divin wisdom demands the trial of the soul with service of GD or rebellion against HIm GD tries the soul with what will reveal its choice in the matter namely with the need and want for that which is external to it food drink clothing shelter and realions. pg 385

Make an effort

Efforts must be made if one is thirsty and in need of water and all the more so if one cannot attain food unless he labors to prepare it by finding kneading baking and so forth.  A still great and more strenuous effort must be made if one has to buy the food and then prepare it.  It is even harder if one does not have money with which to buy food in which case one has to make a greater effort and take steps more drastic than those mentioned about either hire himself out for wages or sell precious objects and belongings and the like.

Abate His hunger

When we contemplate the necessity for man to strive and exert himself in the completion of his affairs we find this to be obvious.  For when a person needs to eat and prepared food is placed before him if he does not employ the necessary steps to eat it by lifting it up to his mouth and chewing it he will never abate his hunger.
