Onions that were diced with a meat knife and cooked by mistake with dairy food or utensils do not necessarily have to be thrown away. Some poskim maintain that if the knife that diced the onion had not been used within the previous twenty-four hours with hot meat, then b'diavad, the mixture is permitted to be eaten. Since not all poskim agree with this leniency, a rav must be consulted.
