Daily Halacha:
Halacha does not recognize personal bankruptcy. While a person who declares bankruptcy is not legally obligated to pay back his debt, he is still obligated to pay it back under Torah law. The person who avoids paying his debt because he has declared bankruptcy violates the Torah prohibition against stealing.
