A cure for Apostacy

A grandchild of the gaon Rav Simch Hakohen Rappaport the av beis din of Lublin, became deathly ill.  The mother begged her husband to allow her to travel to Lizhensk to ask Rebbe Elimelech for a berachah.

When she arrived, she gave the Rebbe a kvittel containing the sick man's name and the name of his mother.  Rebbe Elimelech told her that if she wished her son to recover, she must promise that once he regained his strength, he would come and be the Rebbe's guest for Shabbos.  If she would promise this he would guarantee that rav's recovery   She promised, and the Rebbe told her to go home and reassured her that the rav would indeed recover his health .. The Rebbe gave her a sign that this would come true...

The events transpired exactly as Rebbe Elimelech had predicted.   When he had fully recovered, the rav traveled with his mother to Lizhensk to fulfill her promise, and they spent Shabbos with Rebbe Elimelech.

During the Shabbos, the Rebbe told his guest that he knew that in his youth, the rav had studied philosophical works dealing with heretical questions against belief in GD.  This had brought him to lose faith in GD and His holy Torah.  This is what has caused his illness, and though he was now well, the root of his sickness had not been purged.  The Rebbe told him he must travel to Hanipoli to Rebbe Elimelech's brother Rebbe Zisha where he would have a full recovery.

The rav arrived in Hanipoli on Friday before daybreak and went to find lodging s in an inn.  There he met an older man who welcomed him and called him by name.  The rav, surprised, asked who the older man was.  The man introduced himself as Reb Zisha the brother of Rebbe Elimelech.

"Come now to the mikveh,"  Reb Zisha urged the rav.

Awed by the Rebbe's amazing intuition, the rav went with him.  After they had immersed in the purifying waters, the rav could feel that all the questions, doubts, and lack in his faith that had been harboring in his heart had dissipated.

"Now," said Rebe Zisha, "you are completely cured".

And so he was.

M. Shabbat Segulah

Once, on a Motzoei Shabbos, the chasidim were sitting in the bais medrash of the Ruzhiner Rebbe zy”a for Melave Malka. Suddenly, the Rebbe opened the door of his room next to the bais medrash, stood at the entrance, and said, “The Baal Shem Tov was not a deity, and the zaida, the Magid, was not just an ordinary wagon driver. And once, when the holy Baal Shem Tov prayed, his talis fringe fell out of his gartel and dragged on the floor. The Magid approached, picked it up, and put it back in the gartel, but he was trembled with such tremendous fear that he fainted and his life was in danger. They were compelled to rouse the Baal Shem Tov from his deep dveikus in order to calm him.”  He then added, “I told you that the Baal Shem Tov was not a deity and my zaida, the Magid, was no wagon driver. Still and all, when he touched the Besht’s garment, he fainted from fear. The entire world is Hashem’s garment. How much fear must we feel to touch this world!”  May the memory of the...

The Segulah and the promise of saying Avraham's mother's name

There is a well-known segulah from the Kaf HaChaim citing HaRav Refael Abuchatzera that one who says Avraham Avinu's mother's name אמתלאי בת כרנבו (Amtlai bat Karnevo) 17 times before Oseh Shalom in Shmoneh Esrei is promised they will have chen and will be protected. When Amtlai found out she was pregnant, Nimrod had made a gezeirah that all baby boys were to be killed right after birth, since his advisors had told him a boy would be born who would show the world who the real GD is. Not knowing what to do, she called out: "Whoever the GD of the world is, if this is a boy, save him!" H'shem helped her hide her pregnancy from everyone, including Terach, her husband. When it was time to deliver, she went into a cave and gave birth. It was a boy. She called him Avram. She knew if he was discovered, he would be killed. So again she called out to the wind, "Whoever is in control of the world, please save this child!" and left him in the cave. H'shem again...
