3:When Melachos Are Permitted

Rabbinically-forbidden agricultural melachos may in many cases be done during Shemittah when their purpose is not to help the plants grow better, but to protect them from ruin. Plants may as such be watered in the amounts necessary to keep them from drying out. Note, though, that this is almost inevitably less often, and in lesser amounts, than they are normally watered. Weeds may be pulled out only when they pose a danger to the surrounding plants. (A halachic authority should be consulted regarding pulling out weeds in an area that is not otherwise planted.) And, pesticides may be applied in order to protect the fruits or plants from ruin.
Before caring for plants during Shemittah, however, a gardener who understands the principles of Shemittah, as well as what this plant requires, should be consulted to plan the course of action (such as the specific amount of water) that is, in fact, necessary for the plant’s vibrancy and survival.
Planning the Yard for Shemittah
Although, as we just learned, Rabbinically-forbidden agricultural melachos may be done to protect plants from ruin, one should ideally plan ahead and do whatever is possible to prepare the yard or garden before Shemittah begins. Weeds can be pulled, and trees pruned and thinned out, in the weeks before Shemittah, instead of waiting until after Rosh Hashanah. If possible, an automated watering system timer can be set before Shemittah begins, to water the lawn like clockwork throughout the entire year.

M. Shabbat Segulah

Once, on a Motzoei Shabbos, the chasidim were sitting in the bais medrash of the Ruzhiner Rebbe zy”a for Melave Malka. The Segulah and the promise of saying Avraham's mother's name

There is a well-known segulah from the Kaf HaChaim citing HaRav Refael Abuchatzera that one who says Avraham Avinu's mother's name אמתלאי בת כרנבו (Amtlai bat Karnevo) 17 times before Oseh Shalom in Shmoneh Esrei is promised they will have chen and will be protected. When Amtlai found out she was pregnant, Nimrod had made a gezeirah that all baby boys were to be killed right after birth, since his advisors had told him a boy would be born who would show the world who the real GD is. Not knowing what to do, she called out: "Whoever the GD of the world is, if this is a boy, save him!" H'shem helped her hide her pregnancy from everyone, including Terach, her husband. When it was time to deliver, she went into a cave and gave birth. It was a boy. She called him Avram. She knew if he was discovered, he would be killed. So again she called out to the wind, "Whoever is in control of the world, please save this child!" and left him in the cave. H'shem again...
