The more one matures and recognizes the important things in the world, he will choose to focus on things that will last like: serving H'shem, learning Torah, doing chesed, and less on material gains and pleasures of this world. His most happy state will be when feeling connected to H'shem and his most empty moments when he feels disconnected. His greatest pleasures would be to serve H'shem, and no worldly pleasure will supersede it.
