The choice to serve GD comes with substantial rewards. If he succeeds in accomplishing his mission of service, it is because H'shem enabled him to. If he is unable to complete his goal, he will still be rewarded for the desire to serve his Creator. The same applies to one who chooses to disobey H'shem in his service of Him, even if he was unsuccessful he will be punished for his desire to rebel.
