The test of Temptation

The tests H'shem sends us are not always in the form of trials and tribulations. Very often they are in the form of gifts, abundance, power,...For instance at some point in time, Rav Yigal Cohen says, every person gets a gift, reimbursement or bonus of money. When you did, what did you do with that money? Did you spend it or give a larger amount of Tzedaka from it. Did you pay people you owed or did you buy something you always wanted. Rabbenu Bachya writes: " Sometimes the Creator orders it that many people obtain their livelihood through one person, in order to test that individual whether he will serve GD or rebel against Him: (for) such a position presents him with one of the most powerful sources of trial and temptation a person could face."

M. Shabbat Segulah

Once, on a Motzoei Shabbos, the chasidim were sitting in the bais medrash of the Ruzhiner Rebbe zy”a for Melave Malka. Suddenly, the Rebbe opened the door of his room next to the bais medrash, stood at the entrance, and said, “The Baal Shem Tov was not a deity, and the zaida, the Magid, was not just an ordinary wagon driver. And once, when the holy Baal Shem Tov prayed, his talis fringe fell out of his gartel and dragged on the floor. The Magid approached, picked it up, and put it back in the gartel, but he was trembled with such tremendous fear that he fainted and his life was in danger. The Segulah and the promise of saying Avraham's mother's name

There is a well-known segulah from the Kaf HaChaim citing HaRav Refael Abuchatzera that one who says Avraham Avinu's mother's name אמתלאי בת כרנבו (Amtlai bat Karnevo) 17 times before Oseh Shalom in Shmoneh Esrei is promised they will have chen and will be protected. When Amtlai found out she was pregnant, Nimrod had made a gezeirah that all baby boys were to be killed right after birth, since his advisors had told him a boy would be born who would show the world who the real GD is. Not knowing what to do, she called out: "Whoever the GD of the world is, if this is a boy, save him!" H'shem helped her hide her pregnancy from everyone, including Terach, her husband. When it was time to deliver, she went into a cave and gave birth. It was a boy. She called him Avram. She knew if he was discovered, he would be killed.
