Your fundamental responsibility

A persons has a fundamental responsibility to take care of his body. If he puts himself in harms way he will held accountable. Rabbenu Bachya brings to our attention a very painful reality. A person is held responsible for his own well being. Were he to disregard that and die intentionally in suicide or unintentionally through carelessness, Chas V'Shalom, he is considered as though he murdered someone. With that having been said one must realize that the actual death came because H'shem decreed, that this was his time to go Lo Alenu. As Rabbenu Bachya wriites, "Suicide for which he will be responsible as if he killed another human being- notwithstanding the fact that his dying in this way was in accordance with GD'S decree and took place with His permission"

M. Shabbat Segulah

Once, on a Motzoei Shabbos, the chasidim were sitting in the bais medrash of the Ruzhiner Rebbe zy”a for Melave Malka. Suddenly, the Rebbe opened the door of his room next to the bais medrash, stood at the entrance, and said, “The Baal Shem Tov was not a deity, and the zaida, the Magid, was not just an ordinary wagon driver. The Magid approached, picked it up, and put it back in the gartel, but he was trembled with such tremendous fear that he fainted and his life was in danger. The Segulah and the promise of saying Avraham's mother's name

There is a well-known segulah from the Kaf HaChaim citing HaRav Refael Abuchatzera that one who says Avraham Avinu's mother's name אמתלאי בת כרנבו (Amtlai bat Karnevo) 17 times before Oseh Shalom in Shmoneh Esrei is promised they will have chen and will be protected. When Amtlai found out she was pregnant, Nimrod had made a gezeirah that all baby boys were to be killed right after birth, since his advisors had told him a boy would be born who would show the world who the real GD is. Not knowing what to do, she called out: "Whoever the GD of the world is, if this is a boy, save him!" H'shem helped her hide her pregnancy from everyone, including Terach, her husband. When it was time to deliver, she went into a cave and gave birth. It was a boy. She called him Avram. She knew if he was discovered, he would be killed.
