If you appoint two people to do the same job you are putting your trust in both and are assuming one of them will complete the task. In actually if two people know that they are not the only one responsible they will naturally assume the other is doing the work and they will end up falling short of their obligation. When it comes to trusting in H'shem, Rabbenu Bachya teaches us that if someone puts their trust in H'shem and someone or something else, such as the doctor, lawyer, fund raiser, job, nature, his own talents and abilities,.. H'shem then removers his Hashgacha from the person and they will fail in the hands of what they trusted in. This is such a strong point that Rabbenu Bachya exclaims, "This will be the strongest factor in his being denied the object of his trust"
