Rabbenu  Bachya points out that the alchemist's success  "Has only gained him wealth on this world.  “He who trusts in H’shem will be rewarded for his trust both in this world and in the next."He who trust in H'shem will be  surrounded with kindness.”

The Ohr HaChaim HaKadosh, states the question (on the Meraglim) “Why did the Jewish people not have the level of trust in H’shem that would have had them perceive the land in accordance with His promise? The answer is – trust is not merely a concept but rather it is a reality that is sensed. The difficulty is – how could the Jews not have absolute trust in H'shem after being beneficiaries of the revealed miracles in Egypt, the splitting of the Sea, the receiving of the Torah at Sinai, and the daily miracles in the desert? The answer is – that all the good that they had experienced through H'shem’s beneficence was problematic to them. (They thought) How is it possible that after being idolaters in Egypt could they be worthy of such kindness? Especially after H'shem had taken them as His Chosen People, they failed though idol worship with the Golden Calf. The question they asked themselves was – “Why is H'shem treating us like royalty when we are not deserving of such treatment?” Because of their sense of unworthiness the Jewish people could not have absolute trust in H'shem. They believed that ultimately H'shem would destroy them.
When circumstances become incomprehensible do we suppress our own difficulties and trust H"shem or do we fall prey to our difficulties which have no resolution? If we would focus on the statistics and circumstances that the Jews have been subjected to, there should not be a Jewish people. It is only because of the Jew’s trust in H"shem that circumstance and statistics have no relevance whatsoever.

The Segulah and the promise of saying Avraham's mother's name

There is a well-known segulah from the Kaf HaChaim citing HaRav Refael Abuchatzera that one who says Avraham Avinu's mother's name אמתלאי בת כרנבו (Amtlai bat Karnevo) 17 times before Oseh Shalom in Shmoneh Esrei is promised they will have chen and will be protected. When Amtlai found out she was pregnant, Nimrod had made a gezeirah that all baby boys were to be killed right after birth, since his advisors had told him a boy would be born who would show the world who the real GD is. Not knowing what to do, she called out: "Whoever the GD of the world is, if this is a boy, save him!" H'shem helped her hide her pregnancy from everyone, including Terach, her husband. When it was time to deliver, she went into a cave and gave birth. It was a boy. She called him Avram. She knew if he was discovered, he would be killed.
